The Hilti Kwik-Con II+ is the brand name for the Hilti, Inc. concrete screw.
It is one part of a concrete fastening system that also includes the
Kwik-Con II+ drive tool and the TKC and TKB, which are matched tolerance
carbide bits. These three items must be used together for maximum and
consistent holding values.
To determine the correct length of screw needed, add the
thickness of the material to be fastened to the minimum embedment of 1"
and a maximum embedment of 1-3/4". The Kwik-Con II+ comes in diameters
of 3/16" and 1/4" and in a head style of hex or flat. Both the diameter
and the depth of embedment of the Kwik-Con II+ will affect the holding
values and must be evaluated for a specific application. The depth of
the hole to be drilled into the base material is critical to the holding
values as well. Hole depth must be 1/2" deeper into the base material
than the Kwik-Con II+ embedment to allow space for any material created
during the installation and drilling process. This also helps to ensure
that the screw does not bottom out before being fully set. Each box of
Kwik-Con II+ screws contains the correct diameter of bit needed to
achieve consistent and maximum holding values.
Below are the installation instructions that should be followed when using Hilti Kwik-Con II+ concrete screws:
1. Drill a hole using a hammer drill with either the TKC or TKB
matched tolerance carbide bit. Make sure that the hole is drilled a
minimum of 1/2" deeper than the embedment of the screw into the base
material.
2. Clean the hole of all dust and debris created during the
drilling process by using compressed air, vacuum, wire brush or blow out
bulb.
3. Use the drive tool and a drill set in the rotation mode and
insert the Kwik-Con II through the fixture and into the hole drilled in
the base material.
4. The Kwik-Con II concrete screw will tap its threads into the
base material. Kwik-Con II screws are fully set when the head of the
Kwik-Con II meets the surface of the fixture.
The Hilti Kwik-Con II+ is a concrete screw that is a good choice
to use in applications where a concrete screw is needed. Be sure to
follow the installation steps above to ensure that the Kwik-Con is set
properly and achieves the proper holding values for your specific
application.
As with any anchoring project, it is important to keep safety in mind and follow instructions carefully. Always remember to wear safety goggles, handle all tools with extra care and follow all technical specifications. This article is meant to serve only as a basic explanation of concrete fasteners. Always refer to manufacturer's instructions or consult a contracting expert during any anchoring project.
