The Hilti metal hit anchor is the name for its drive-in type
expansion anchor. The generic name for this type of anchor is the hammer
drive anchor. The metal hit anchor
is made of zinc plated or stainless steel. The drive nail that comes
with the anchor body is made from an aluminum/zinc alloy. The stainless
steel metal hit anchor is rust resistant and can be used in outdoor
applications. The metal hit anchor is a light duty fastener designed for
use in concrete and/or masonry. It is easy to use and has a low
profile, mushroom head that is tamper resistant once it is set in the
base material.
The metal hit anchor is available in two diameters- 3/16" and
1/4". The 3/16" diameter comes in one length of 7/8". The 1/4" diameter
comes in numerous lengths including: 3/4", 1", 1-1/4", 1-1/2" and 2".
Hilti does not sell the 1/4" metal hit anchor in lengths longer than 2".
However, Concrete Fasteners.com does sell hammer drive anchors in
2-1/2" and 3" lengths.
The hole to be drilled into the base material for the metal hit
anchor should be drilled with a proper hammer drill. The hammer drill
will produce a precise hole. The carbide bits that are used should also
meet the correct ANSI standards.
The installation of these Hilti metal hit anchors can be completed in three simple steps that are outlined below:
1. Using a hammer drill, drill a hole into the base material a minimum of 1/4" deeper than the metal hit anchor will penetrate.
2. Insert the metal hit anchor through the fixture and into the hole drilled in the base material.
3. With a hammer, carefully strike the nail of the metal hit
anchor until the head is flush with the anchor body. It is important not
to overdrive the nail of the metal hit anchor.
Metal hit anchors
can be used in numerous light duty concrete fastening applications.
Before determining which concrete anchor you should use, be sure to
consider all of the important factors involved in the application. To
help ensure proper installation, it is recommended that you start with
the installation steps outlined above.
As with any anchoring project, it is important to keep safety in mind and follow instructions carefully. Always remember to wear safety goggles, handle all tools with extra care and follow all technical specifications. This article is meant to serve only as a basic explanation of concrete fasteners.
