Hilti Kwik-Bolts is the brand name for the Hilti Corporation wedge anchor.
The Kwik-bolt has been in existence for many years and has gone through
a number of changes. The Kwik-bolt that Hilti currently sells is called
the Kwik-bolt 3. The Kwik-bolt 2 comes before it and the original wedge
anchor being called the Kwik-bolt. They are all essentially the same
product with the changes being made to the clip, thread length and the
process in which they are manufactured. The orignal Kwik-bolt's clip was
a two-piece design with the two pieces being taped together allowing
for the clips to move independently. The clips on the Kwik-bolt 2 and 3
are now a one piece design with other new features as well. The anchor
itself has changed from a full body design (outside diameter of the
threads are the same diameter as the anchor body) to a design in which
the outside diameter of the threads are larger than the anchor body. The
Hilti Kwik-bolt was made in America for many years. But the product is
now sent overseas to China to be manufactured.
It is important to understand how to properly and safety install a Hilti Kwik-bolt. Below are step by step instructions:
1. Using a hammer drill, drill a hole in the base material the
same diameter as teh Kwik-bolt being used. The depth of the hole must be
a minimum of one anchor diameter deeper than the embedment of the
anchor.
2. Clean the hole of any debris from the drilling process.
3. Using a hammer, drive the bolt into the concrete. The anchor
must be driven into the concrete at least 6 threads below the surface of
the fixture being attached to the base material.
4. Using a wrench, tighten the nut to the recommended torque.
Hilti® Kwik-Bolts are excellent anchors that deliver strong
holding values and can be used in many different applications. It is
important to use these anchors properly to ensure the best results.
As with any anchoring project, it is important to keep safety in mind and follow instructions carefully.
